A Muslim traveller’s guide to Seoul

Seoul makes halal travel unusually simple because so much of it clusters in one place. The Seoul Central Mosque in Itaewon anchors the city’s densest run of halal restaurants, and most Muslim-friendly hotels sit within walking distance. This guide covers how to use that to your advantage — and when to look beyond Itaewon.
Itaewon and Yongsan: the natural base
Itaewon is home to the Seoul Central Mosque and the highest concentration of halal dining in Korea — Uzbek, Turkish, Pakistani, Malaysian, and Korean halal spots within a few blocks. Neighbouring Yongsan keeps you close while being quieter and often better value.
If this is your first time in Seoul and prayer access matters most, base yourself here and treat the rest of the city as day trips.
Prayer and certification
The Seoul Central Mosque is the spiritual centre and an easy walk from most Itaewon stays. Halal certification in Korea is administered by the Korea Muslim Federation (KMF); where a restaurant or property cites it, we link the source so you can check it yourself.
Beyond Itaewon
Myeongdong and Hongdae are worth a stay if shopping or a younger, livelier scene is the priority — both now have Muslim-friendly options, though halal food is less dense than in Itaewon. Gangnam suits business travellers; plan prayer around hotel facilities rather than a nearby mosque.
